Rosetta Alice Data Calibration Cookbook

چکیده
1 Create a 2-D Wavelength Image Changes in the resistivity of the detector electronics (primarily due to thermal variations) cause the mapping of a location on the detector in physical space, [x,y], to data space, [X,Y], to vary. This results in an effective change in the dispersion of the data. To correct for this, the detector electronics can produce simulated photon events, known as “stim” pulses, at two known locations in physical space on opposite ends of the detector. The location of the two stim pulses can be used to define a common reference frame

Rosetta-Alice calibration star reference spectra: Selection and correction
Calibration of the effective area (Aeff) for the Rosetta-Alice instrument requires observation of calibration stars with known FUV spectra. A number of calibration stars have been selected and observed for this purpose, and will continue to be observed in future mission phases. Calibrated spectra of the same stars from past and current FUV missions constitute the known spectra against which R-A...
متن کاملTo Appear in the Rosetta Mission—space Science Review
We describe the design, performance and scientific objectives of the NASA-funded ALICE instrument aboard the ESA Rosetta asteroid flyby/comet rendezvous mission. ALICE is a lightweight, low-power, and low-cost imaging spectrograph optimized for cometary far-ultraviolet (FUV) spectroscopy. It will be the first UV spectrograph to study a comet at close range. It is designed to obtain spatially-re...
متن کاملAlice—an Ultraviolet Imaging Spectrometer for the Rosetta Orbiter
We describe the design concept and scientific objectives of ALICE: a lightweight (2.2 kg), low-power (2.9 W), and low-cost UV imaging spectrometer for the ESA Rosetta Orbiter. Ultraviolet spectroscopy is a powerful tool for studying astrophysical objects, and has been applied with great success to the study of comets. ALICE is designed to obtain far-UV (FUV) spectra of the Rosetta comet nucleus...
متن کاملAlice/Rosetta during the Deep Impact Encounter
We report on spectroscopic observations of periodic comet 9P/Tempel 1 by the Alice ultraviolet spectrograph on the Rosetta spacecraft in conjunction with NASA’s Deep Impact mission. Our objectives were to measure an increase in atomic and molecular emissions produced by the excavation of volatile sub-surface deceased May 11, 2005
متن کاملImplementation of the ALICE TRD into the High-Level-Trigger
The ALICE High Level Trigger is a high performance computer cluster which provides the possibility of an online analysis of detector data from the ALICE experiment at the CERN LHC. With this online analysis it is possible to distinguish rare and interesting physics scenarios from frequently occurring and well known events. It also enables the various subdetector systems to perform online calibr...
